"Spooners" by Daniel Castro and Rinee Shah

How did a one page comedy sketch become a preposterous short film with a dancing pigeon and a bowling ball full of cheese? Good question.

Rinee: “I had been thinking about making a narrative short film for awhile and since my aesthetic and sense of humor blends so well with Daniel’s, it felt obvious that we should do it together. There’s something just universally relatable when it comes to the trials and tribulations of awkward spooning, so it was a fun script to write.”

Daniel: “Rinee’s script had me rolling in my seat, there’s no way we weren’t going to make it into a film. We decided that the absurdity of the whole situation would be well suited to the similarly over-the-top vibe of 80’s Miami and went to work designing rooms that set the tone for the story. We were lucky enough to stumble upon a real-life Don Juan in our actor Omar Pelaez and then things sort of started falling into place. Everyone on set had fun making this film and I think it’s palpable in the final product. Not every day you get to be professionally ridiculous so we really let loose on this one.”
