Based on a Hilton Head island and one of Inc. Magazine’s 5000 fastest-growing companies, the accessory line Spartina 499 knows a thing or two about exporting a coveted lifestyle. They’ve also routinely worked with illustrators, so Karolin Schnoor was honored when they requested her distinct aesthetic for a map of Southern California, which now adorns beach towels, handbags, and other merchandise. (The project led to another collaboration… and another.) In addition to bright colors, hand-lettering, and the brand’s omnipresent mermaid, Schnoor researched the area’s prominent skate and surf cultures and included plenty of palm trees and cacti.
